Diagnostic Technology

At Tri-State Snoring and Sleep Center, we use cutting-edge diagnostic tools to identify the exact cause and severity of your sleep-related breathing problems. Dr. Laurie Anne Stanell combines over 35 years of dental expertise with specialized training in dental sleep medicine to provide you with accurate, comfortable testing that leads to effective treatment solutions.

Eccovision Acoustic Diagnostic Imaging System

We use the Eccovision Acoustic Pharyngometer and Rhinometer system from Sleep Group Solutions to map your nasal and oral airways with precision. This innovative system works by sending harmless sound waves into your airway. When these sound waves bounce back, the machine measures them to determine exactly how large your airway is and where any obstructions or narrowing occur.

The Rhinometer focuses on your nasal airway, while the Pharyngometer examines your oral airway. Both components are FDA-cleared and provide highly accurate measurements that help us identify the specific location and severity of airway collapse related to snoring and sleep-related breathing disorders. This detailed mapping ensures that any treatment we recommend, such as oral appliances, is precisely tailored to your unique airway anatomy.

ARES Apnea Risk Evaluation System

A formal sleep apnea diagnosis requires an overnight sleep test, but that doesn’t mean you need to spend an uncomfortable night in an unfamiliar sleep lab. Our practice uses the ARES (Apnea Risk Evaluation System), which allows you to complete your sleep study in the comfort and privacy of your own home and bed.

The ARES device is remarkably simple to use—it’s as easy to wear as a baseball cap. Despite its simplicity, it records comprehensive data on your sleep quality and any sleep-related breathing events throughout the night. After you wear the device, we upload the data, which our physician colleagues then analyze to provide medical interpretation and an official diagnosis.

This at-home testing option eliminates the inconvenience and expense of traditional sleep lab studies while still providing the accurate, detailed information needed for proper diagnosis and treatment planning.

Benefits of Advanced Sleep Diagnostic Technology

Our diagnostic technology offers several important advantages:

  • Convenience: Complete your sleep test at home on your own schedule.

  • Accuracy: FDA-cleared devices provide precise, reliable measurements.

  • Personalized insights: Detailed data reveals the exact nature of your sleep issues.

  • Cost-effective: At-home testing eliminates the need for expensive sleep lab fees.

  • Faster results: Quick turnaround means you can start treatment sooner.

  • Targeted treatment: Precise airway mapping ensures your oral appliance fits perfectly.

Who Needs Sleep Apnea Diagnostic Testing?

You may benefit from diagnostic testing if you experience chronic snoring, daytime fatigue, morning headaches, difficulty concentrating, or if your partner notices you gasping or choking during sleep. People with risk factors such as excess weight, a thick neck, or a family history of sleep apnea should also consider testing. Even if you’ve been avoiding CPAP therapy, our diagnostic technology can help determine whether you’re a candidate for comfortable oral appliance therapy instead.
